Bettina von Zwehl was bron in Munich in 1971. Zwehl received MA from the Royal College of Art, London 1999. Bettina von Zwehl's work has been exhibited in many galleries in Europe and in the United States. Her famous series 'Alina' (shown below) was exhibited in photoworks and produced in collaboration with Royal College of Music, Photographer's Gallery, London in 2004 and in 'Photography' 2005 at Victoria Miro Gallery, London. Zwehl's work has been shown at Lombard - Freid Fine Arts, New York and Galleria Laura Pecci, Milan Steidl and photoworks have co-published her first monograph in 2007.

Bettina von Zwehl began making portraiture as a student at the Royal College of Art.
''As an artist I am drawn to the intensity of the resulting image and the descriptive power of the format.''
Her work is an outgoing enquiry into the possibilities of portraiture and its fine subtleties. Each of her work aims to enhance psychological states in everyday life using controlled conditions to search for some note of perfect balance in which the sense of an intimate humanity might be revealed.
