Cinematography is known as the art or technique of movie photography including the development and shooting of the film. Most cinematography is displayed effectively on screen and is responsible for achieving technical decisions relating to the mise en scene.

Cinematographers are known as the chief over the camera and lighting crew on a film and the director of photography and film. The cinematographer works alongside with the film's director to decide what lighting, setting, camera angles and different film techniques; to decide how the frame, scene or surrounding is portrayed to appeal to viewers and audience. The techniques included in this scene or mise en scene will also affect your mood.


 Born June 21, 1926 - January 26, 2003 in Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesian, Conrad Lafcadio Hall was judged to be history's ten most influential cinematographers. Conrad Hall gained a number of awards including three Academy & BAFTA Awards. Hall graduated in 1949 at the University of Southern California intending to study journalism but ended up graduating from Cinema school. Mr. Hall worked on many documentaries , television (The Outer Limits) and minor films. Later in his career, he became a studio camera operator before moving up to cinematography in the mid 1960's. Some of his successful cinematography films include In Cold BloodCool Hand LukeButch Cassidy and the Sundance KidAmerican BeautyRoad to Perdition (examples shown below)
